About us

“Dragão Voador” is an allusion to the fantastic, the intangible that becomes real in the collective imagination, as well as theater, with its power to create and undo the realities of the moment.
Formed in 1998 the Company developed four works for the theater and film. All these incursions have been worked on concepts that discuss men in contemporarity, different forms of his integration in today’s world and his modes of political perception of it.
Dragão Voador Teatro Contemporâneo, idealized by Joelson Gusson, was founded out of the necessity for searching for a dramaturgy of the actor built by the actor himself. A space and time for constant and concrete contemporary theater investigation, for trespassing, for contamination. Its premiere came with the staging of Jean Genet’s piece The Maids, in 2003, in Rio and in São Paulo, acclaimed by the critic for its accuracy and actualization of Genet’s universe. Its second creation, O Que Nos Resta é o Silêncio, awarded with Myriam Muniz Prize for Theater, with dramaturgy by Joelson Gusson, was performed as work in progress at the riocenacontemporânea Festival (2005) and premiered at Espaço Sesc Copacabana, with further presentations at Casa de Cultura Laura Alvin and at Casa da Glória (2006/07). The last work of the group is Cyborg Manifest, a performance-based piece where dramaturgy is built upon a scientific concept, with no text unless the poems by WJ Solha. It was played as a process at ricenacontemporânea Festival (2007), Festival de Teatro de Curitiba and Teatro Gláucio Gill (Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro – as part of the event of occupation of this theatre by the group Coletivo Improviso, directed by Enrique Diaz), both late presentations at the year of 2008. In 2010 Manifesto Ciborgue has it’a premiere at Espaço Cultural Municipal Sérgio Porto in Rio de Janeiro.
